Today there is a wide variety of footwear available that is great for the beach. Discover which type is best for your needs.

Summer fun means time at the beach and this year there are more choices than ever for beach footwear. Manufacturers are producing beach shoes that are fun, fashionable and functional. Are you at the beach to sunbathe or to fish from the rocks? Are you a jogger or a someone who likes to do water aerobics? Whatever your preferences, there's a beach shoe perfect for your needs.

Flip Flop Favorites

Flit flops are long time favorites of many beach goers. They're comfy, inexpensive and handle damp, sandy conditions well. Originally the only ones you could find were the old fashioned shower shoe types, plain and practical. Now, however, there are fashion flip flops available for the entire family.

Choose from flip flops embellished with beads, sparkles, flowers or other adornments, flip flops with wedged soles for more support, or even flip flops with heels for those who prefer a bit more style. These shoes are excellent for those who just like to walk along the shore, visit the boardwalk or other activities that are not extremely athletic.

Crocs Come to the Beach

By now you're probably familiar with the unusual looking shoes called Crocs. These comfy shoes are popular both on and off the shore. They mold to your foot, offering sturdy support, are lightweight and unscathed by sand and water. Choose from a rainbow of colors. There are new styles available for both adults and children and you can even personalize your Croc with a special little shoe charm.

Water Shoes

Water shoes offer your feet lightweight protection whether you are in or out of the water. The sole is treaded rubber, protecting your feet from rock or shells and helping prevents slips on wet surfaces. The upper is breathable, often made of net. This little shoe slips on much like a sock. These are often worn by water skiers and jet skiers to improve their grip. You can also get them in more athletic styles perfect for beach joggers or doing water aerobics.

Sidewalk Surfers

Sidewalk surfers are the creation of a company named Sanuk. Sidewalk surfers are like a hybrid between a shoe and sandal. The sturdy sole is like that of a sandal, giving excellent traction in the sand and protection from sharp edges. The uppers are a casual, breathable material ranging from cotton to hemp. These shoes are great choices for folks who love climbing rocky shores or look stylish on the boardwalk as well. Versatile and functional, sidewalk surfers are exploding in popularity.

Birkenstocks

One of the traditional beach shoes are Birkenstock sandals. Known for extreme comfort and durability, these once hippies only sandals are terrific for the beach. They are not recognized for their beauty, but rather for their comfort, arch support and flexibility.

Uggs on the Beach

It may seem odd to you that people would choose to wear sheepskin lined Ugg boots on the beach, but surfers have known for decades that they're the perfect shoe to slip on when you get out of cold water. They warm your feet quickly without overheating them and offer great protection on rocky shores.

No matter what your style or what activities you like to do at the beach, you'll find there are beach shoes available that are just right for your day at the beach.
